We want to be part of a movement for positive change in our industry - and in the world - measuring our success not only in profit but in the impact we have on people and planet. Ultimately, we want to use our business as a force for good.

ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT

At Wheat’s headquarters, we have solar panels, elaborate waste sorting for recycling, plastic-free policies, pro-organic policies, vegetarian lunch, chargers for electric vehicles - wherever there is room for improvement we aim for best pratice. But the large footprint is in our supply chain, and that’s where we are focusing our efforts. Some of the environmental risks in our supply chain are mitigated by our certifications (GOTS, GRS, RWS), and we are currently in the process of becoming B Corp-certified. As part of this work we are mapping our supply chain, collecting impact data, and assessing our risks and opportunities. This will lay the foundation for a targeted climate action plan, guiding our joint efforts with partners for the future.

MATERIALS

A list of our most used fabrics, materials and coatings:

  • Organic Cotton: The vast majority of our clothing and accessories is made from GOTS-certified organic cotton.
  • Organic Cotton Blends: To add stretch, some of our organic cotton fabrics are blended with synthetic or semi-synthetic fibers such as elastane and viscose. The vast majority of this cotton is GOTS-certified.
  • Recycled Polyester and Nylon: Our polyester and nylon are made from recycled materials, primarily plastic waste. The majority of this is GRS-certified.
  • Mulesing-Free Wool: Our wool comes from sheep that are not subject to mulesing, and part of these styles are certified by the Responsible Wool Standard
  • BIONIC-FINISH® ECO: Our technical outerwear and thermo wear are treated with BIONIC-FINISH® ECO, a water- and dirt-repellent finish free of perfluorinated chemicals (PFA/PFC).
  • Water-borne PU: To make textiles water-resistant, they are treated with polyurethane (PU). The PU-coating on our rainwear is water-borne instead of oil-based or solvent-based. It also eliminates the use of VOC's in the drying process.
  • Cottonseed Oil: As an alternative to PU outerwear made from polyester or nylon, we offer a shell jacket made from organic cotton coated with cottonseed oil, which is naturally water-resistant.
  • Rubber: We prioritize natural rubber and recycled TR rubber in our footwear, where possible.
  • Leather: We use leather and suede from Leather Working Group-certified tanneries, which are committed to responsible leather production.
  • We comply with the REACHGOTSGRS and Oeko-Tex Standard 100 regulations regarding the use of chemicals.

CERTIFICATIONS

We are certified by the following standards:

  • GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard): GOTS guarantees organic textiles that meet high environmental and social criteria—from raw material harvest to production and working conditions.
  • GRS (Global Recycled Standard): GRS verifies and tracks recycled raw materials through the supply chain. It also requires specific standards for chemical usage and addresses social and environmental conditions in the production of products.
  • Oeko-Tex® Standard 100: Oeko-Tex® Standard 100 ensures high product safety and textiles that are tested free of harmful substances.

PEOPLE

We adhere to all relevant national and international laws and guidelines for human and labour rights. As a company, we have a responsibility to ensure that our employees, as well as those employed in our value chain, work under safe, hygienic, and dignified conditions.

LOCALLY

We strive to support the well-being and development of our employees through:

  • Flexible working hours
  • Personal coaching
  • Community-building activities such as a running club and social gatherings
  • An in-house body therapist
  • The Wheat Social Health Club, which encompasses our initiatives for physical safety, mental well-being, and workplace-related matters
  • Clear procedures for handling and resolving any complaints

GLOBALLY

We screen our suppliers to ensure they comply with international legislation and due diligence practices on human rights, wages, and working conditions. All of our suppliers also work in accordance with our Code of Conduct and are audited under a social standard such as BSCISA8000, or WRAP. Social requirements are furthermore integrated into our certifications GOTS, GRS, and RWS.

CHARITY

Children are at the heart of Wheat, and who doesn’t wish for a world where all children grow up with safety, health, love, and opportunities?

As a member of the Red Cross Club 100, Wheat’s founder Charlotte Galsgaard has organized fundraisers for, among others: war-affected people in Ukraine and refugees in Serbia.

Other causes Wheat has supported and continues to support include: .

GOVERNANCE

Management Structure
Wheat is a family-founded company and remains partly family-owned. It was started in 2002 by Charlotte and Peter Galsgaard, who are still active in management alongside, among others, CEO Thomas Frederiksen. Our leadership team combines many years of industry experience with a strong values-based foundation.

Ethics and Responsibility
We have a clear policy for responsible business conduct, covering everything from anti-corruption and data security to respect for human rights and labor rights in our global supply chain. Our decision-making processes are rooted in respect for people and the environment, transparency, and legal compliance.

ESG and B Corp
As part of our journey toward B Corp certification, we work systematically with ESG (Environmental, Social, Governance). Our current focus is on mapping and collecting data to strengthen our strategic initiatives.

Transparency
We are in the process of strengthening our reporting and documentation so that our stakeholders – from customers to partners – can follow our progress. Our ambition is to become a role model for responsible leadership in the children’s wear industry.

We are guided by:

POWER TO THE PEOPLE

Wheat employs less than 50 people across Denmark, Norway, Germany and The United Kingdom, the majority of whom are women – including in our leadership. Most are also parents of one or more children, which naturally creates a workplace with respect and understanding for a healthy balance between work and personal life. Based on the latest workplace assessment, Wheat’s employees report a high level of well-being.

We have a clearly defined process for handling and resolving any complaints or cases related to dissatisfaction or discrimination. Fortunately, we have not yet had to put this into use.

As part of creating job opportunities for more people, we collaborate with our local Municipality on an integration program that helps the long-term unemployed return to work on flexible terms. So far, we have hired two employees through this partnership.

The goal is to create a work culture that draws its strength from different personalities and perspectives, where everyone is aware of and feels empowered in their rights as both humans and employees.
