Environmental and Climate Policy
Applicability This Environmental and Climate Policy applies to Wheat A/S and all brands owned and operated by the company, including its subsidiaries. It covers activities within our own operations as well as those carried out on our behalf across the value chain.
Scope This policy outlines Wheat A/S's commitments, principles, and priority focus areas related to climate, environment, and circularity. It is aligned with our Responsibility (ESG) Policy, Supplier Code of Conduct, and other relevant internal governance documents.
Purpose The fashion and textile industry has a significant impact on climate, nature, and natural resources. Wheat A/S recognizes its responsibility to minimise negative environmental impacts across its operations and value chain, while contributing positively to long-term environmental resilience. This policy establishes the framework for how we manage and reduce our environmental and climate-related impacts.
1. Our commitment
Wheat A/S commits to:
Complying with all applicable environmental laws, regulations, and standards in the countries where we operate.
Continuously reducing our negative environmental impacts, including greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, resource use, waste, pollution.
Integrating environmental considerations into business decisions, product design, sourcing, and logistics.
Working collaboratively with suppliers, partners, employees, and customers to improve environmental performance.
Supporting the transition from a linear to a more circular business model.
Environmental responsibility is embedded in our business strategy and is essential to our long-term resilience, credibility, and value creation.
2. Priority focus areas
Based on our value chain and impact assessment, Wheat A/S prioritises the following environmental focus areas:
- Suppliers and value chain collaboration
- Greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and climate impact
- Chemical management
- Materials and raw material sourcing
- Packaging
- Waste, resource efficiency, and circularity
3. Suppliers and value chain
A significant share of our environmental impact occurs in the supply chain. We therefore work closely with our suppliers as key partners in reducing environmental impacts.
All suppliers are required to comply with Wheat A/S's Supplier Code of Conduct, which includes expectations related to environmental management, chemical use, water and energy consumption, emissions, and waste handling. Compliance is supported and monitored through dialogue, self-assessments, documentation review, and third-party audits.
Beyond compliance, we aim to collaborate with suppliers on continuous improvement initiatives, including energy efficiency, renewable energy, chemical management, and responsible material sourcing.
4. Climate and greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions
Wheat A/S is committed to reducing greenhouse gas emissions across our value chain (Scopes 1, 2, and 3).
4.1 Own operations (Scope 1 and 2)
We will:
Assess and monitor energy use and emissions from offices, warehouses, and stores.
Prioritise energy efficiency measures and, where possible, the use of renewable energy sources.
4.2 Value chain emissions (Scope 3)
As the majority of our emissions occur in the value chain, we commit to:
Engaging suppliers in measuring and reducing their emissions and supporting the use of renewable energy where possible.
Reducing emissions from transport and logistics by minimising air freight, optimising shipment planning, and improving packaging efficiency.
Encouraging lower-impact business travel, prioritising alternatives such as train travel where feasible.
Wheat A/S is currently calculating its GHG baseline to define clear reduction priorities and targets as part of our ongoing climate strategy.
5. Chemical management
We are committed to ensuring that our products are safe for consumers, workers, and the environment.
Wheat A/S requires suppliers to comply with our chemical requirements, including our Restricted Substances Lists (RSL) and relevant international standards (AFIRM/ZDHC). We work with testing programmes, documentation, and follow-up processes to verify compliance.
We will continuously strengthen our chemical management approach, including alignment with recognised industry frameworks and initiatives where relevant.
6. Materials and raw material sourcing
The extraction and processing of raw materials can have significant environmental and biodiversity impacts. Wheat A/S is committed to responsible material sourcing and to reducing impacts associated with fibre production and processing.
We will:
Prioritise certified, organic, recycled, and lower-impact materials where feasible.
Consider environmental impacts, including land use, water use, and chemical inputs, when selecting materials.
Gradually increase transparency and traceability of materials across our supply chain.
7. Packaging
Packaging plays an important role in protecting products during transport but also contributes to waste and resource use.
Wheat A/S applies a prevention-first approach to packaging by:
- Avoiding unnecessary packaging
- Reducing packaging volumes and material use
- Prioritizing recyclable and responsibly sourced materials
- Reducing reliance on virgin plastic and increasing recyclability where possible
8. Waste, resource efficiency, and circularity
Wheat A/S is committed to reducing waste and improving resource efficiency in both our own operations and our supply chain.
We will:
Work to reduce production waste, packaging waste, and operational waste.
Support recycling and responsible waste handling where infrastructure allows.
Explore opportunities to extend product lifetimes through durability, care guidance, repair, reuse, and recycling.
Integrate circular design principles where feasible, including material choices and product construction that enable recyclability.
9. Governance and implementation
This Environmental and Climate Policy forms part of Wheat A/S's overall Responsibility and ESG framework and should be read in conjunction with our Responsibility Policy, Supplier Code of Conduct, and other relevant procedures.
Oversight of environmental priorities is managed by the impact manager in collaboration with management, board and relevant business units.
Progress is supported through due diligence, monitoring, and continuous improvement activities. The policy is reviewed regularly, and minimum once a year, and updated as needed to reflect regulatory developments, business changes, and improved practices.
10. Communication and engagement
We aim to communicate transparently about our environmental commitments and progress and to engage employees, suppliers, and partners in achieving shared environmental goals.
Employees are encouraged to act responsibly and contribute to environmental improvements within their areas of influence.
